Emberex is looking for a Sales Executive who's driven, professional, and a natural fit for a team that's been working together for years. We need someone who can aggressively pursue new business while remaining genuine and human. There are ed tech companies and research teams looking for exactly what we offer: a reliable software partner with a proven track record. We are looking for the right person to help us find them and start those conversations.
About Emberex
We build web and mobile applications for a bunch of really great clients, including some of the nation's top Ed Tech companies, researchers, and educators. We love working with people who have devoted their lives to making the world a better place.
Our team includes developers, designers, and QA analysts who've been with us for the long haul. Our average employee tenure is almost a decade, which is rare in this industry. Or really in any industry. We focus on the latest technologies and use AI to stay efficient and proactive for our clients. We build trusting relationships that last for years, because our customers matter to us, and so does our team.
What You'll Do
Your time will be split across two verticals that Emberex has served for nearly two decades: ed tech and research. In both spaces, your core focus will be finding the right people, opening doors, and starting conversations that lead to lasting partnerships. The stakeholders you'll be working with are busy, mission-driven professionals who value authenticity and expertise over aggressive sales tactics.
On the ed tech side, you'll identify and reach out to both for-profit and non-profit companies that need a reliable software partner to build custom platforms from the ground up. This means connecting with key decision-makers who are evaluating development partners. Your job is to get in front of those people and make the case for why Emberex is the right fit.
On the research side, you'll be prospecting for researchers at universities and other research institutions. Some of these researchers are already working within active grant budgets or organizational funding, while others are in earlier stages, actively pursuing grant funding for projects that aren't yet off the ground. Both represent real opportunities for Emberex. Our team understands how grant-funded software development works, and we're well-positioned to help researchers at the planning and proposal stage incorporate software development into their funding strategy. Your job is to find the right people, understand where they are in that process, and start the conversation. Prospecting in this space can be cyclical, depending on funding timelines and grant cycles, but we'll make sure you have the context and support to navigate those rhythms effectively.
We're also genuinely interested in what you bring to the table. If you have existing relationships in either of these verticals, that's a real asset. And if your background or experience points to other promising opportunities we haven't fully considered, we want to hear about them.
Work Environment, and a little bit of Travel
We have an office in downtown Eugene. Some of us work in the office some of the time, and almost everybody lives close enough to go into the office whenever it makes sense. Even though we've gotten pretty good at the hybrid/remote approach, there's really no substitute for being in a room with someone and talking face-to-face. Many of us have worked together for years, and we're comfortable just chatting—about sports, the latest TV series we're watching, whatever. We solve puzzles together, tailgate before Oregon Duck games, take ski/snowboard trips, and meet up for happy hours. It's the kind of place where work happens, but so does life. We also have a break room full of snacks, a game room full of games, and, on occasion, a dog or two wandering through the office.
A few times a year, you'll hit the road for conferences, industry events, and targeted university visits. These are the kind of trips where real, meaningful relationships get started. We've had great success connecting with potential clients face-to-face on these outings, and they're worth the time.
Compensation & Benefits
We’ll offer the right person a competitive base salary paired with a performance-based commission structure. We’ll also offer you other benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance, paid time off, a yearly bonus, a matching 401(k), and more.
