Great sounding vintage archtop built by Gibson Guitars in Kalamazoo, Michigan for Montgomery Wards catalog sales. Stamped JAN 1940 (twice) on the back, visible through the bass f-hole. All original except 3 5/16” of binding replaced on the treble side of the neck by the nut and slight modification of the firestripe pickguard. Rare fan shaped pearl inlays only seen on some 1930s Gibson L-4 models. Hand carved solid spruce top and highly flamed maple laminate back and sides. 5 layer maple/mahogany/maple/mahogany/maple neck. Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Easy action with 012 to 054 Martin Retro monel strings. Plenty of chunk for chording and balance and clarity for soloing. A fine vintage swing, blues, or honky tonk country box for a modest price. Hardshell case included. TRADES CONSIDERED.
