So no one needs to guess the obvious, /5 and /6 BMW Air Cooled motorcycles are the bikes that always draw my full attention. First large motorcycle I rode followed by a dozen or more Air Head's including /7’s.
This 1974 R75/6 came from a collector who simply fell in love with the sight of the polished Fuel Tank about four years ago. The owner started it for him, it ran beautifully and was loaded into the trailer. It has resided in his office until recently when another Motorcycle Vision came about, a restored 1950 Speed Twin Triumph. Without the space for two bikes, the BMW was brought to the shop searching for a new owner.
My knowledge is mostly about stock motorcycles but it is obvious who ever built the bike loved working on BMW’s and showed a high level of skill and craftsmanship. The frame and front fork sliders were powder coated in a bright red and the remaining body work color matched perfectly.
The formed Aluminum Gas Tank is either a custom design or was hand formed. I did a quick search on the Internet and could not find a supplier of this tank but I stand to be corrected if there is someone out there selling these. If not, the bike has a one off tank. The seat and rear Cowl piece are obviously custom as is the Aluminum Air Box Delete Cover. The Carbs have K&N Air Filter as does the breather on the back of the engine.
There are a set of beautiful custom Rear Sets that set off the polished front engine Cover, polished front Brake Caliper, Engine Valve Covers and Polished Billet Upper Triple Clamp. There is a polished Tag on the upper triple clamp that reads; “1974 Luft Kopf”, translated to 1974 Air Head. I have no information on the builder but assume when the bike is listed they emerge.
