Hi, I'm looking for a specific type of person for a live-in companion/light caregiving role in my mother's home. She is currently in the middle stages of Alzheimer's and we are doing what we can to keep her in her home as long as possible. She is able to get around OK using a walker and cane. She can no longer drive. She can still use the restroom, shower, and get dressed on her own. She has two companions that help with the upkeep of the house and her daily affairs that come every day to check in for 2-3 hours at a time. She has a spare bedroom in a three bedroom home in a very quiet newer neighborhood in Junction City. At this moment you could sleep there and perhaps work 1-2 shifts a week (3 hours at a time- healthy cooking? physical therapy? driving her to appointments?). I'm offering the room for free and then $500-$700 on top of room/utilities.
I need someone with good boundaries. My mother has a very caring side and can be very sweet but she has always been difficult(stubborn) and negative also. I do not know how the dementia will behave with these personality disorders as it progresses. This has the potential to be a short term position or a long term! If she needs to move to assisted living we may rent out of the house. So this could be a good transition housing for someone with a kind heart. My mom may respond better to someone in their 60's or 70's.
Another important note about cats: My mother is obsessed with cats and if you are a cat person too this could work out very well. We would have space for one kitty at the house if it got along alright with my mom's cat, Abbey.
Thank you,
Kyla
