Red Tip Photinia is an evergreen plant and are mostly used as hedges in landscape designs. These shrubs are known for their beautiful, dense white flowers in the spring that turn into black berries in the fall.

The young leaves start off red, hence the name “red tip,” and as they mature, change into a dark green. Red Tip Photinias grow one to three feet each year, and can get to be 10 to 15 feet tall, so will need pruning on a regular basis. Red Tip Photinias thrive in hardiness zones 7 through 9.

Plant Red Tip Photinias in well drained soil.  Full sun is preferred, but photinias can tolerate partial shade.  Make sure the photinia doesn’t grow to dense; pruning is crucial to plant health. Prune in late-March to early-April once the growing season starts. Their expected life is 50 years.
