ESS (Electrostatic Sound Systems) model AMT 1b
Manufactured in USA 1977-81
For over forty-five years ESS has been on the cutting edge of audiophile sound reproduction. The original design of the "pyramid-shaped" AMT 1's in 1973 introduced a new standard for high-end speaker performance
The AMT 1b's provide reference standard sound quality with superb imaging and extended dynamics housed in a handsome cabinet with modern aesthetics... Truly "functional Art"
Technical overview:
German Scientist Oskar Heil's Famous *Air Motion Transformer (*A.M.T.) tweeter (see diagram)
* A.M.T: Accordion-like folded metalized Mylar pleats 0.0005 inch thick suspended within a powerful opposing magnetic field ...
Applied audio signals react to the magnetic field and stimulate the Mylar membrane.
The bellows-like motion of the folded pleats "squeezes" air out five times faster then the air motion of a conventional cone / dome tweeter
* See diagram above
Result: The A.M.T. delivers FAR superior high frequencies when compared to virtually any other type tweeter system

Deep bass performance is obtained through the use of a high quality cast-frame 10" woofer and a rear mounted passive sub-bass radiator which provides the AMT 10's with deep, full-bodied bass descending to below 30 Hz
