This is a very nice and EXTREMELY LARGE Gourd with Engraved Art Work depicting the Hopi Fertility Deity Kokopelli. Among other Tribes, it was the bringer of Spring with his flute playing and would chase away Winter. It was crafted in 1996 based on the signature, however I cannot make out the name of the artist. It was well cared for with beautiful artwork. This is fine art and not some mass produced piece!
This Gourd stands 21" tall and is 13" diameter. That's 41 inches in circumference! You'll have a difficult time finding a gourd of this size anywhere! It is in very good condition with only natural variations in the natural texture.
The detailed artwork encircles the hollowed out gourd uniformly. The piece is also accented with a wrapping of Jute Twine and finished with Copper Ornaments consisting of a Feather and five Tubes at the end of the twine wrapping.
This piece would work well on a table or on the floor. It has an open mouth on top so one could add reeds or other materials if desired. It is a beautiful piece of art! I'm actually out in Walterville but can bring it into town with me and meet up somewhere convenient for both of us if someone is serious about purchasing.
