This is a professionally built 15' double ender made with fir plywood and Alaskan yellow cedar frames. It was built in 2007 and fully refinished last year. It has been treated well, used little (and not at all since it was refinished) and has no leaks. Stainless oarlocks, custom ash oars and a fitted trailer are included. The bottom has a full-coverage UHMW skid shoe installed, in excellent condition. There is also an oil-finished storage box built to fit beneath the oarsman seat, and removable wooden covers for the oar seat pockets. The drain plug screws in place and is located at the stern for easy draining when winching the boat onto the trailer. Both ends of the boat have eyebolts installed. There is no anchor system.
This drift boat is a copy of one built by Prince Helfrich in the late '30s or early '40s. It is in the style of a Woody Hindman double ender, but uses 15' plywood for the sides, rather than the more common 16'. I copied the dimensions from the original boat and built this one while I was running the shop at Tatman Wooden Boats in the mid-2000s.
For an oarsman and one full-sized passenger, or oarsman and two children, this would be a fantastic boat for running the upper McKenzie and similar waters.
I'm asking $6,500 for this boat. That's a lot of money, but this is an essentially like-new craft built with the materials and techniques of the originals, and includes the trailer and oars. At today's material prices, a new custom boat of this quality would cost more, not including the trailer and oars.
