A Family for Every Child is in need for volunteers for the Submissions and Inquiries team, who want to make a difference and help children who are currently waiting for their adoptive family.
This work is particularly suited to those who have some computer experience and attention to detail. Ability to work with a variety of people is helpful.
We ask for a minimum of 2-3 hours per week on a regular basis.

Would you like to make a difference in the life of a child or an elderly or disabled adult? Do you have a car and a few hours to spare each week? The State of Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) in Lane County have a growing need for volunteer drivers to transport clients to medical and other appointments. We especially need drivers for children in foster homes who need to attend counseling sessions and visits with their parents. This is an opportunity to provide an informal but vital service to people in our community. Any level of time commitment is appreciated, and we welcome individuals and couples who are experienced drivers and have a caring and supportive attitude!

How does the program work? As a driver you will receive requests for rides from a dispatcher, usually at least 48 hours in advance, and then you confirm the appointment in advance with the client or foster parent. Volunteers will use their own vehicles and are reimbursed at $0.55 per mile (current 2009 rate) from their home and back for each trip and can receive limited insurance coverage for incidents occurring while performing volunteer duties.

Volunteers must have a valid Oregon driver's license and a good driving record, a personal car in safe working condition with current insurance, and must pass a criminal record check and complete a Driver’s Safety class. Volunteer driver orientation, the criminal record check and the driver’s safety class are provided by DHS.

For more information you may contact Misty Brazell at 541-687-7373 Ext. 266 or Bob Proctor at 541-687-7373 Ext. 306. You can also apply online at www.oregon.gov/DHS/volunteer/
January 27 - February 12, 2010

The program for protecting the Marine Turtles is run since 1996 together with the Michoacan University and the local people of Colola Beach. This year again the international volunteers will work with the people of Colola village to protect the sea turtles. There are two kinds of turtles that arrive on the beach, the Negra (Black Turtle) and the Golfina (Olive Riddle Turtle). The people involved in the project help by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information.
In this frame, a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project as members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work.
The goal of this project is to protect the turtles and to help run the conservation activities of the turtle protection program, promoting international cooperation and solidarity.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out at night since the turtles do not get out of the ocean during the day (because of their natural predators, it is safer for the turtles go out of the ocean in the dark). Together with the people from Colola Village, the volunteers will seek for the turtles and take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. Local people, who are very friendly, work with the group and explain them what to do.
Very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in the work for protection of the turtles are needed for this project.
There are also some extra activities to be done with the local people in order to help improve the town such as setting names to the streets of the town or helping to arrange a multi-use playground for the children, and maybe some cleaning work, but this depends on the volunteers' initiative. The people of the town are very open to participate in other activities that the group of volunteers can propose, so any ideas will be welcome.
Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.
Location: Colola is a small town located on the Michoacan State coast, between Maruata and La Placita towns. It's a remote place that offers an excellent opportunity to be close to nature, on a virgin beach, with no tourism around. The closest city is Tecoman at 200 kilometers, but other villages such as La Placita that are closer (45 minutes by bus) can offer Internet connection.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

This project is part of CADIP's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org/workcamps.htm

Hello,

My sister joined the Peace core a little over a year ago. When she was sent to Malawi, Africa her main goal was to help the children. She started the Malawi Music Project that kicks off on November 30th. The goal is to educate the children and communities of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and other environmental skills that the Malawi communities can use to improve their living conditions. They need only 1,000 dollars to bring two bands around Malawi to different communities to spread their message. I have attached the Facebook link so you can look at the article that was written. I don't know if this is the right place to be looking for help so if you know a better place or someone I can contact please let me know.

Thank you,

Several ShelterCare programs are looking for volunteers to transport program residents to various places. Residents are living with severe and persistent mental illness or a brain injury.
These persons are very appreciative of this type of assistance.
The need arises due to the shortage of staff and agency vehicles available to transport clients. Examples of resident transport are: shopping, to medical appointments, to senior and disabled services, and other events or appointments. This could include recreational outings as well.
Not only is this a hugely important service to our consumers, but it's incredibly helpful to staff as well.
The hours of this position are very flexible, and the volunteer is free to sometimes say "no" to a transportation request should it not work with their regular schedule.
Volunteers would be driving agency vehicles and need to have 3 years of driving experience.

Experience other cultures without leaving Lane County. Founded in 1950, the non-profit Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS) exists to bridge cultures and promote world peace. Become involved in our programs and befriend a University of Oregon international student or scholar. We have four primary programs:

1. Short-Term Homestay - Volunteers in the Eugene-Springfield community are needed to open their homes to new international students and scholars for 4 to 6 days when they first arrive in the USA. You help provide their first impression of Eugene and Americans. Students will then live at the UO dorms or other permanent housing.

2. Community / International Friend - Local residents offer hospitality and friendship to U of O international students and scholars throughout the year. Community members and their international friend decide on the activities and amount of time spent together.

3. Conversation Friend - Volunteers meet for one hour a week with an international student or scholar to practice conversational English. This hour a week can significantly help a student or scholar improve their everyday conversation skills, while providing both individuals an opportunity to learn about another culture.

4. Share Thanksgiving Dinner - Families welcome one or more international students to share Thanksgiving dinner with them and learn about this American holiday.

To learn more about FFIS visit FFISoregon.org and complete an online application.
Volunteer with the Kids’ FIRST Center and be the difference in the life of a child! Volunteering here is a great experience that allows for a lot of personal and professional growth. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to work hands-on with child victims of abuse and their loved ones, providing advocacy, support, and information. You will also work in cooperation with local law enforcement, child welfare and Assistant District Attorney’s on behalf of child victims and their families. You are an integral and valued part of the team, and we hope you will consider applying to join us. As a part of the District Attorney's office, Kids' FIRST serves victims of child abuse (physical, sexual, and child witnesses of domestic violence). We provide medical examinations and forensic interviewing of child victims, as well as help to ensure their emotional and other needs are met through information and referrals.

There are two ways to get involved: either as a victim advocate or as a childcare volunteer for our Parent Education Group on Monday nights. For victim advocates, we will be planning a 32-hour victim advocate training in the NEAR future. For childcare volunteers, we will plan an 8-hour training as soon as we have enough interested people.

Please contact Erica Shawan at 541-682-3938 for more information or visit our website for an application (lanecounty.org/KidsFIRST).
We hope to hear from you soon!
We are hoping to get this website up before the new year!
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

CARE needs Volunteer Program Managers for the following programs:

*Volunteer Coordinator—This is an administrative position, most of which can be done from one’s home utilizing a computer and telephone. He or she will coordinate volunteers who are transporting feral cats and owned pets to/from clinic appointments and volunteers who are providing surgical recovery care for ferals until the cats can be returned. The Animal Transport Program Coordinator will be responsible for:

1) Tracking and documenting animals being fixed through CARE that also require transport and/or recovery assistance. Documented reporting to include: date/volunteer who traps animal; volunteer who transports animal; which clinic fixed animal; volunteer who provides recovery care; release date.

2) Coordinating between above parties to facilitate a successful transition and outcome.

Mysore is a city in the state of Karnataka in Southern India. It was the erstwhile capital of the Wodeyar dynasty and is considered the cultural capital of the state. The city has recorded history dating back a thousand years and a mythical history which explains the origin of the name - apparently, this was the place where the demon Mahishasura was slain by the Goddess Chamundi. You will find a statue of the demon on Chamundi hill which commemorates this event.

The aim is to spread awareness among the people and to give them more instruments to feel confident and free to decide for their future, and for the future of a new generation. The mission of this project is to:
• Organize a multi-purpose project to involve the community and sensitize the local people about the Health & Hygiene problems.
• Educate the children to build a better and more conscious society.
• Spread awareness on Women rights issues and social welfare;
• Environmental issues.

Saturday the 24th is "Make A Difference Day," a national day of service. Please come help School Garden Project and all the kiddos at River Road Elementary with their garden.

We're battling noxious weeds and will attempt three different methods at eradicating them. On site will be a Victory Gardens representative teaching their holistic approach with microbes and a Master Gardener teaching sheet mulching (with leaves, coffee grounds, food waste, and manure). The last attempt will be a simple cover with black plastic, in hopes of suppressing the weeds from photosynthesis. Come learn the different techniques! We will continue to monitor our efforts and hope to be a future resource for the community on removing quack grass and bindweed.

Light snacks will be provided.

Please join us at River Road Elementary (120 W. Hilliard Ln.) on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00-2:00.

Help Make a Difference in the Life of a Child (Eugene)

Volunteer your time at the Kids' FIRST Center and be the difference in the life of a child! Volunteering here is a great experience that allows for a lot of personal and professional growth. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to work hands-on with child victims of abuse and their loved ones, providing advocacy, support, and information. You will also work in cooperation with local law enforcement, child welfare and Assistant District Attorney's on behalf of child victims and their families.

Family Finding- A Family For Every Child

A family for Every Child is in desperate need for volunteers who are wanting to make a difference and help children who are involved in the foster care system. We also are in need of Spanish speaking volunteers. The Family Finding Program is a partnership with the Department of Human Services. Family Finding is an intensive relative search model with the untilmate goals of achieving permanency and supporting enduring family connections for children in the foster care system. Lane County, DHS, and A Family For Every Child have joined together and have created a program we believe will make a difference in the lives of local foster children.

Everyone wanting to volunteer with the A Family for Every Child/Family Finding project must complete a background check and attend our trainings.
Our work in this project has been broken down into four steps, and people can do one of the steps or all of them for a particular child, depending on their time and/or desire. Most of the steps can be done from your own home!

1. The first step is File Mining (work that is actually done at the DHS office);

2. the second step is Internet Search (work that is actually done at your home on your own computer),

combined with Connection/Calling (contacting people whose names have been collected in the File Mining and Internet steps).

3. the third step is a Family Connection Meeting where people interested in the future of the child come together and help devise a network of support for the child.

4. the fourth step is Follow Up, assuring that the developed plans are being implemented

Each step is VERY REWARDING AND ENGAGING and offers the volunteer the ability to work on their own. Our expectation is that cases will be completed within a 4-6 week time period. More detailed information is provided at our training, which occurs monthly. It is also a good time to ask questions and get clarification.

The next Training will be held October 24th from 9am-1pm at the Family For Every Child office which is located at 4211 West 11th Ave, Eugene OR 97402.
If you are planning on attending the training please call or email in advance so we can have enough materials prepared

Check out our website at : www.afamilyforeverychild.org

If you have further questions please feel free to contact, Becca at 343.2856 or email becca@afamilyforeverychild.org
